Yayasan Sime Darby Chairman’s Trophy Football Tournament Under 15 & Under 12 Girls was held in a riveting weekend carnival football tournament.

Kuala Lumpur, 5 September 2022 – In line with the Sime Darby Football Club’s commitment and objective towards providing the opportunity and platform for junior talents in the football industry, Sime Darby FC (SDFC) with Yayasan Sime Darby organised the YSD Chairman’s Trophy, a football carnival on 3 and 4 September 2022 at the SDFC Training Ground in Bukit Jelutong, Selangor. The tournament was participated by teams from across Peninsular Malaysia including Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Kedah and Pulau Pinang.

This is the third YSD Chairman’s Trophy since the SDFC Junior Development Programme commenced in 2018, and is special as it is the Inaugural All Girls Football Tournament. A total of 17 teams competed during the 2-day tournament. This unique occasion with only girls participants involved, was played following the mini football format, and is the first tournament in the country to be played in this format following the recent launch of Mini Football Malaysia.

The President of SDFC, Y.A.M Tengku Datuk Seri Ahmad Shah Ibni Almarhum Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Al-Haj highlighted that the event is the Club's first football tournament to be organised by SDFC for this calendar year.

"After the U16 boys were crowned the Champion for KL International Cup and Liga Suparimau Season A, we are seriously focusing to lead and be the best in Women’s Football within Selangor and Malaysia. We hope our young talent will participate in more matches and improve their skills to the highest level. We hope this tournament will be an anticipated annual event for Women’s Football in Malaysia. Our target for next year is more participation from all around Malaysia” he said.

YSD Chairman, Y.A.M. Tunku Tan Sri Imran Ibni Almarhum Tuanku Ja'afar expressed, “It is incredibly important to hold more tournaments exclusively for girls not only for gender quality but also because these girls’ strength, passion and discipline are clearly visible when they compete in all-girl tournaments. We hope that with the success of this year’s YSD Chairman’s Trophy, it will be viewed as a model to be emulated and be a catalyst for more girls-only competitions to be organised for football going forward.”
